Player prop notes with model projection, fair probability, and a plain-English deep read on each line.

  • Plays of the Day

    0

Why no Official Picks for NHL yet

Official Picks are the graded output of a model — a published pick, locked before the game, that the model's long-run record is built from. The MLB Model and the NFL Model each have one, with the win/loss, units and ROI by bet type published in public on their record pages.

The NHL Model is live for research as of 2026-10-09 and publishes everything the picks side would use — projections, Matchup Edges, goalie ratings, prop leans, Plays of the Day — but the picks themselves are held back until the model's results support turning them on. Nothing graded ships until it is ready to be graded.

See the MLB Model Record and the NFL Model Record for the shape the NHL version will take when it is on.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Gambletron AI NHL Model publish?
Daily research on every NHL game. The model publishes expected-goals projections (home/away/total), team ratings for 5-on-5 offence and defence, power play and penalty kill, special teams including 3-on-3 overtime and shootouts, confirmed and probable starting goalies with their rating, Matchup Edges between the two sides, player-prop notes with a deep read, and the day's Plays of the Day. The NHL Model lives in its own repository and publishes these; Gambletron AI displays them as-is.
Why aren't there Official Picks for NHL yet?
Official Picks are the graded output of a model — a published pick, locked before the game, that the model's track record is built from. The NHL Model is live for research as of 2026-10-09, but its picks are held back until the model's results support turning them on. This is the research-lab rule: nothing graded ships until it is ready to be graded. The MLB and NFL Model records show the shape the NHL version will take when it is on.
What does "research mode" mean in practice?
The model runs on every slate and publishes everything the picks side would use — projections, edges, matchup data, goalie ratings, prop leans — but no entry is marked as an Official Pick, nothing is graded on a win/loss calendar, and nothing on the site reads as advice to bet. The research is the product; the picks are a byproduct that is withheld until the model earns them.
What's a Matchup Edge?
The model's measure of how far one side's strength at a thing exceeds the other side's strength against it, scaled to league ranks. A top-five power play against a bottom-five penalty kill is a bigger edge than a top-ten against a bottom-fifteen, even if both are "advantages". Matchup Edges are published for 5-on-5 even-strength offence vs defence, power play vs penalty kill, high-danger chances for vs against, and goalie performance where confirmed.
What's special about NHL compared to MLB and NFL?
Hockey hinges on the goaltender more than any other input, and goalie confirmations often arrive close to puck drop — much of the day's line movement is simply the market learning who is in net. Low scoring makes hockey the noisiest sport we cover (most games decided by one or two goals; single events like a deflection or shorthanded goal decide outcomes), and the puck line is set at a standard 1.5 goals rather than moving freely, so pricing happens in the odds attached to that number rather than in the number itself. The NHL Model is built around those three facts.
What are Plays of the Day?
A short daily list of the biggest market mispricings by expected-value math — the day's prices across all books, with the vig removed, ranked by edge. Plays of the Day is market math, not model picks: it looks for prices that are off, not for games the model loves. It is published as research alongside the model's own view and labelled accordingly.
